Phase Twenty-One: Your Standard Fairy Tale Happy Ending

[The world has been saved, hopefully for the last time in a long time. The celebrations - and the mourning - have started, and in a lot of places are still continuing. But the victory isn't the only thing to celebrate - and with a lot of help, and a lot of favours, Laura and Lily have extended an invitation to the Chalice crew, past and present, to join them. If you were nearby, chances are the invitation was hand-delivered by a dutiful Servbot.]

1. The setup
[With the looming deadline of the closing portals, things move quickly! Invitations are sent, travel is arranged, a venue is prepared. What had been the White Chalice's Arboretum - now an open-air grove in what's set to become a lush forest - is the site of the ceremony itself, while the celebrations afterwards will take place in Gucun. There's a lot to be done to make ready. Are you helping, or seeking out one of the brides beforehand?]

2. The ceremony
[It's only fitting that Captain Smith should officiate. He's waiting at an arch set up by the flowerbeds of the Arboretum, where the happy couple met, where Laura's tended her memorial to her friends from before the Chalice and to those who've passed on since. Between the Kwan daughters, Epimetheus, and a brace of Servbots you shouldn't have any trouble finding your seat, even if Xue Yi is a little preoccupied ensuring Prometheus behaves. There's some time before the wedding party arrive, to talk amongst yourselves - or with some of the other guests present, who include Laura's overwhelmed-looking parents!]

3. The reception
[Of course, the real point of a wedding is the party afterwards! There's food, drink, and music - Miki pulled some strings, and Pit's showing how Skyworld does catering. After the recent battle, perhaps this is a chance to see some long-absent faces in more peaceful circumstances, or to say goodbye. Or are you just here for the embarrassing speeches?]

We've a lot to figure out, but I think we'll do okay. And I hope we can do some good for others, too, while we're at it.

What about you, Julia? What are you planning to do with yourself now?

Honestly... there's a lot of options out there right now.

There was Miki offering me to have an advertising or idol job in Fuso... then there's staying in Gucun and helping Cheng and Devon as an instructor... and honestly I could even go back to space exploration now too.

And on top of all that, there's Miss Hadou's butler. He's such an amazing boxer I'd love to try studying under him sometime!

And I know I'd be happy with all of them... that's why it's so hard to decide!

I don't know about the Hadous, but it sounds like for any of the other three we should still see a fair bit of each other, then. I expect setting up regular contact and trade with Cosmic Ark to take a lot of work, and there's a good chance Gucun will be at the forefront of that... and of the rebuilding, too.

Although I won't deny it'd be fun to see you in the idol role again.

Lily was there all along, honest

Whatever you do, Reilev, make sure it will be work that goes towards fulfilling your dream. You poured too much soul into it to abandon it now!

Which means that working as an idol for Herrera Industries works, I suppose. Or training another generation of astronauts!

Believe me, I'm going to do what I can to help encourage and promote space exploration. And maybe one of these days I'll be able to pay a visit to Cosmic Ark even!

That might not be such a distant goal, you know! With better star charts travel between our systems becomes faster, and with diplomatic relations being established, we expect to see more and more guests from Earth as time goes on! Irgel, too.

That's right.

Admittedly Irgelion interactions on Earth didn't start out all that great... but that was still a long time ago, compared to more recent threats the damage was minor, and if we can make peace with the Zuvorg and interact with them more frequently, then there's no reason Irgel can't try to return to Earth once more. But this time as friends, not enemies.

I remember you talking about the Irgelions in the Earth Sphere having to adjust to being cut off from home. With faster ships now, how are people dealing with being back in touch after all?

Well, I've been a bit preoccupied, but I think this is probably great news for a lot of Irgelions who've never gotten to even see their home planet. For a long time, they all just thought their own people just tried to be a conquering force and failed miserably at it.

Seeing how things have changed for the better's good news for everyone.

Maybe now it will be easier to spread Irgelion culture! Not just among Irgelions, but humans too. Getting to know each other better is a good way to stop prejudice...

I hope it will disappear completely one day. What your ancestors did wasn't your fault. You shouldn't have to suffer for it.

The world's opening up. With travel to Irgel and Cosmic Ark, the Polyhedron and elsewhere, what happened will seem less like a scary alien invasion and more like just part of all the chaos we're putting behind us.
