Star Captain Resnick (Delta Galaxy, Bronze Keshik, ([personal profile] hominilupusinexilio) wrote in [community profile] srwug_alpha_rp2013-05-11 05:23 pm

"And now his Watch is ended."

A dreary day in the not very creatively named Wolf City. The bloodhouse chapel was still starkly unpainted, reflecting the neccessity for more pressing construction, though pyramidal and grandiose in structure. Sprinkling rain drummed against the metal of the walls outside.

In hundreds of cubbies, there were small pyramidal glass things, each containing the ashes of a Warrior. Their name (given and bloodname) were displayed, and if one pushed a button, a holoprojection would appear detailing a brief biography and their accomplishments. There were also small alcoves next to each one where mourners could leave flowers and things like that, a concession to Spheroid tradition.

Resnick's ashes were carried in by Loremaster Daphne Vickers, who had his strong jaw and choppy blond curls, followed by Khan Phelan Kell, a man who, though not of impressive build, clearly commanded the respect of all the Wolf clansmen in the room. Both wore ceremonial fur-trimmed leathers.

"Today we are gathered to honor a fallen comrade. The honor of the Warden way guided him here and he became the first of our Clan to set foot here since the Exodus. He fought hard for his new home and represented us well to the Earth Sphere. As Khan, I found his regular reports invaluable. He earned his bloodname and carried it proudly, earning him a place here. And now he has earned his rest as well.

It is good and natural to mourn when one has lost a good friend and trothkin. However, know that there are two ways we will honor his legacy so that he is not forgotten. First we will redouble our commitment to stop the Word of Blake from bringing the Terra he worked so hard to protect under their heel. Secondly, his genes will be used to make the next sibko of trueborn Warriors. He will live on in them, as he will in your memories and hearts. Seyla."

'Seyla.' echoed all the clanners there. Phelan looked over at Ranna and resisted the urge to wet his lips. Writing a speech to honor someone who was, by all reports, a fervent admirer of his most hated rival and until recently a Crusader was not the easiest public speaking he'd ever done, though it beat facing down a hostile Council chamber. '

"I invite anyone who wishes to speak of the dead to do so before I formally inter him here." Said Loremaster Vickers.

B... Resnick Vickers taught me a lot.

He helped me find my path as a warrior, helped me see the world in a different way.

[She lowers her head respectfully.]

He was a brave warrior, and a mentor who I valued greatly.

He... was like a father to me. And to me... the word Father is not just a progenitor, or a parental figure.

To me the word means Hero. And that's what he was. What he still is.

I hope I'll be able to meet the members of the Clan who'll carry on his line in the future, and get the chance to speak of them of their proud lineage.

Seyla.

Some voices murmur as a person clad in the fatigue jacket of a Jade Falcon takes the stage.

"There are many things I could say of Star Captain Resnick Vickers." Matthew intones, inclining his head to the gathered Wolf warriors.

"That he was a warrior both fearless and talented, smiting foes with a laugh in his heart and the words of Kerensky on his lips. I could tell of how he comported himself with honor in all the doings of his life, seeking new challenges and advancing himself with ravenous ambition!

I could tell of his great deeds in battle! How he faced down the dreaded Invaders themselves, allied with the Word of Blake, in the Ruins of New York, seized the Isorla that was Shin Dragon from them in the pacific, and exterminated them down to the last mutated cell in Cis-Lunar space!

I could tell of how he liberated the people Domepoli from the dezgra Railway, alongside his trothkin of Terra and of Clan Wolf, and how he smote the Overdevil and helpedbroke the Railway's power forever!

I could sing, oh warriors of Clan Wolf, of how he fought alongside the President of Neo-America and took back that country from the vile usurper Richard Hawk, blasting down a nuclear warhead sent to wreck the cradle of humankind!

I could sing of all the worthy doings of Resnick Vickers of Clan Wolf!" Matthew declares, then pauses. "But instead, I shall speak of other aspects of him"

He dramatically pauses again.

"Resnick Vickers...was an infuriatingly smug son of asurat."

One Star Captain Ranna Kerensky is in the audience, and her lips curl in what technically constitutes a smile. Technically.

It is more likely one will see that expression from things that come from deep beneath the sea.

Her hand runs over the needler pistol by her side, but she does nothing with it. Says nothing to it.

Still, the smile that is not a smile stays on her face.

"Aff, he was a smug warrior among smug warriors." Matthew says after a moment, seemingly lost in his own world, and seemingly ignorant of all the people plotting to murder him.

"He was a Mechwarrior always ready to cast scorn upon his fellow trueborns for the slightest perception of deviance from the ways of the Clans with a smile upon his lips, a smile that made you want to smash his face!

He was extraordinarily vain about his personal features, and I half suspect he acquired EI tattoos for the sheer novelty of their appearance!

Resnick Vickers, long may his name be sung of, would keep his bunkmates up in the middle of the night practicing the violin! He modified his mech loudspeakers so that he could pump out Classic Terran Music at the loudest volumes possible at his enemies in battle!

He was an utter fiend for chocolate pastries. I once saw him dance like a monkey. And for some reason, he always insisted that Warrior Doggy was the true protagonist of 'The Adventures of Clan Spaniel'!"

Matthew stares out at the gathered warriors. "For many reasons, we should have been bitter enemies. And yet he earned my deepest respect, respect that stemmed from all of the things that made him pompous in my eyes. In his actions on the field, he won that respect from all of his trothkin.

He became a mentor, not one who hung back from action or calamity, but one who taught greatness by demonstrating it in the fields of honor.

And he would not have left such a great legacy to his Clan, to his trothkin, to the Earth, if he had not been so overbearingly smug. If he had not roused in those around him a yearning to prove themselves worthy of his respect. For that, Resnick Vickers deserves all the honor we can bestow upon him.

Seyla."

Matthew turns and walks away from the platform, chin held high, inviting people to shoot if they dare.

The fascismile of a smile remains as she strokes the side of the needler almost unconsciously.

"It tends to vary," Ranna replies almost serenely.

"Do you think it inappropriate to challenge someone to a Trial so soon?" Though it does not sound like a question.

Oh Shit It's the Kell Hound Khan.

Matthew tenses as Phelan chews him out. He ponders being flippant, being scornfully defiant, throwing about Trueborn bigotry...he quickly rules those things out.

"You give me credit for cleverness I do not deserve." He says finally. "I was only attempting to speak my true feelings of Resnick Vickers, in the belief that they were worth airing."

He meets Phelan's gaze. "If I offended, I blame it on a poor grasp of language and timing, not the intent behind my words. I will offer surkai for the former, but never for the later."
