Matthew is chatting up some of the repair Haros about modifying coolant lines as he oversees some minor repairs on his Nova.

He looks up and notices Setsuna there.

"Ah! Setsuna, the greatest warrior of Celestial Being! It is fortuitous to find you here!"

He walks up. "You know much about swords, quiaff?"

[That man again. Why ask about swords?]

I like to think so.

"Excellent!"

Out comes a tablet and light pen, ready to take hologram notes.

"In terms of swords placement on your current mech, which configurations allow for the greatest ease of deployment while at the same time not intersecting thruster ports?"

The hip-joints allow for easy access to both hands, and as you can see on my Gundam, smaller blades can be put on the side of the knee-joints. Are you considering putting blades on your mech?

"Radiator Blades!" Matthew replies beaming to himself.

He calls up some schematics, showing a Nova design in which narrow, spade-like blades stick out of the arms and the back unit of the chicken-legged mech like wings.

"It is a combination of the Zeon heat blade weapon and a space-rated cooling system, in which the waste heat from reactor and weapons fire is channeled into these blade structures, creating a powerful cutting surface! They are composed of Diamond-carbon alloy through which coolant flows, with a tungsten core to retain heat when the blades are detached from the mech. So far, I have installed them at angles to maximize heat dispersion–"

As Matthew chatters on, you notice certain inefficiencies in the design he has circling about on the tablet. (In a word, the awkwardness of usuage and imbalances in the frame.)

Point out?

You'll never be able to get it to work like this. Blades need full motion range in order to be effective weapons, if all you can do is stab and slice horizontally, you'll be at a huge disadvantage. Moreover, if you simply stick them on, you'll ruin the balancing.

You'd be better off using a mech that can move its arms in more human-like fashions than putting it on this.

Matthew frowns at that. He doesn't want to give up his Nova.

Idea.

"What if we used pivots?" He suggests. "As long as the coolant lines are properly insulated and can flow into the blade structures, the radiators blades can be shifted along the frame. If they can shift position at certain angles, they can also reconfigure into a more balanced arrangement, as well as perform melee attacks with a greater range of motion.

He doodles in some shifting parts, moves some of the radiator fins onto the shoulder units, and places the leading radiators along the forearms, punch-dagger style.

It looks better, you think. It doesn't get in the way of the space maneuvering pack installed on this version of the Nova either.

This... actually, this may work.

Though, there is one thing you may want to consider.

[He motions to his 00 Gundam] The best way to get the most out of a weapon like this is to have arms that have good range of motion. If you could replace the arm pivots at the shoulder with ball-joints, you'd have the most range of motion you could get.

[That would actually allow for you to aim your handheld weapons at angles usually reserved for more agile frames]
