1 - A boy in the brig

[The surviving captured Disciple of Baphomet is in the brig and has been since the fight with them a week ago. He seems rather resigned. He eats and sleeps and exercises but doesn't do much else. He hasn't tried to escape, nor has he really complained.]

Not particularly no. A little jaded maybe, but, you're not really in the wrong here.

Part of the problem is the damage is already done. Another is that it's a matter of priority. Not everyone has the same list, or even has them in order.

All we can do is try to work on it a step at a time, and growing crops underwater is one of those steps. Moving up into space is another. People have good intentions with science... just sometimes we forget that along the way.

[[He pauses, and recalls something.]]

Well... at least we haven't fallen as low as some cultures in space. Would you believe there's an alien race that looks at us as crops? Nothing more than cattle and grain for their harvesting?

Well that's not good. They shouldn't be rearing us, they should be hunting us in our natural habitat.

It doesn't bother you that they've essentially done the same thing to their planet, if they have to come to ours for resources.

Who knows. They might have a perfectly healthy planet which they want to keep that way by taking resources from elsewhere.

I'm more concerned that they have the technology to fly through space at all. That shows that they have a total disregard for the natural world. After all, why else would they leave their own planet?

Well... at least you have a problem with them at all. We have that technology too, obviously, but, at least us, from the Earth Sphere, haven't wandered out much further than Jupiter.

I guess, if you look at it on a bigger scale, anything we've done centers from Earth. They're going too far out and...
We're all doing the same thing, now that I think about it. You head out way from home to get resources; hunting animals and building materials. We do it too, just from the rocks and planets nearby. They're heading out who-knows how far to come get out blood and bones.

So, it all comes down to a regard for consequences, doesn't it?

Well then putting these aliens aside, and getting back to, the problem isn't so much technology, but, the disregard of the people using it.

And even that... Well, I'll admit, when there's a lot of things going on in the world, you kinda forget about that. For a while, this ship was short on resources, so it's kind of a small taste of what your people are trying to preach.
