[And the virtual combat world unfurls in front of of Bernie. The Gaza-D starts off in the air over an bustling city. It's bordered on one side by a calm and peaceful bay, and on the other three by snow-capped mountains. Desert stretches beyond the mountain range.

A single red NEXT awaits Bernie, standing on top of a parking garage on the other side of the city. It's got a cannon over one shoulder and is holding two guns, but the rest is kind of hard to make out. A voice speaks up; It's instantly recognizable as commander Aznable.]

Wiseman. Try as you might, you will never match me.

[The mission start signal flashes, and Red Queen takes the initiative, firing off a shell from its cannon and a barrage of missiles from its other shoulder.]

"Whoa". Appearing before Bernie was an amazing sight. It was like he was so high up he could see most of the Earth, and he couldn't help but survey the setting past the city. It took him a little while to notice a single MB, until that familiar voice was heard.

"Captain!" Bernie's eyes looked into the city, and he saw the Red Queen. No way, is he the enemy, Bernie thought. His shock overwhelmed him, and the Gaza was fired upon.

"AH!" Bernie changed into MA, sharpened himself, and took evasive maneuvers. Missiles were fired back.

[The NEXT starts boosting to the side, shooting down any missiles that get too close with a few precise shots from then guns on its hands. They're pulse lasers, it turns out, so that's gonna be...tough. It then turns its guns on Bernie, filling the air with danmaku!

Of course, the shots that miss have to go somewhere, so a lot of the civilians in the town are quickly reduced to a thin red paste.]

"Grr!" Bernie scowled. Just cause you're an AI of the Captain, doesn't mean you have to be as fast as him, he thought.

"AHHH!" A shocking cry; Bernie's forward view is completely filled with gunfire. Gaza descended towards the city. Bernie tried to keep his handling steady, instinctively moving out of the way when he saw ammo flying directly at his camera display. He grunted, feeling some passing hits rock his MA. Eventually, Gaza D entered the city. It transformed into MS mode and took over behind a building.

One hand held the Knuckle buster hyper cannon, while the other took out a beam saber.

[The entire building Bernie's hiding behind explodes, as it's pounded by howitzer and missile fire. The rest of the rubble gets shot over with another barrage of pulse lasers, as well.]

"AH!" As if a giant bomb exploded it, Bernie's cover was gone. Gaza headed to another building, aiming and firing back with its beam rifle.

Concealment is not the same as cover.

[The NEXT boosts left and right, dodging with amazing ease. It's still pounding away with its missles and laser guns, and it's closing fast...!

More and more terrified virtual-civilians die horribly. There's even a girl and her dog torn apart by a flaring thruster.]

Hold still, Bernie's thoughts raged. Gaza had to move to avoid the constant fire. He remained on the defensive, and he wondered how much ammo did the Red Queen have.

"GUH!" Bernie felt a shock as a beam shot struck the Gaza's leg. Gaza D takes a leap and transforms into MA mode, boosting into the air. While he was trying to save himself, Bernie noticed the destruction around him. He gasped as he saw civilians explode.

"Hey! Be careful!"

Hm...Naaaaaaaaaaaah.

[The Red Queen keeps chasing after Bernie, using a chain of boost dashes to keep pace with the Gaza's MA mode-yes, it is that fast. The beam guns keep firing, as well-you might not get that break you want, after all.]

Come on. This game's only just gotten started.

The Gaza kept rocking on and off; Bernie, with one eye closed because of the shaking, tried to balance in between watching his back and watching his data. All he was doing was retreating without a good counter, and with his AP going down.

"Well, it did say 'lunatic' didn't it?" Bernie said, then groaned again. The Gaza was smoking, and descended behind another building. It transformed back into MA mode to land.

Erg, how to deal with this kind of opponent alone? Think Bernie!
