Departure

[On White Chalice's deck, Lily's five friends from Angel Force are loading a stasis pod on board of their ship. Inside the pod, behind a big round glass, there is Lily Rain EVE, or rather what's left of her. Even though her whole body is badly damaged, most of her left side is missing and there is a huge hole in her chest, the expression on her face is almost serene.]


Lily... No... I can't believe this is happening...


All we can do at this point is take her back to Cosmic Ark... And hope it's not too late...

[Laura's dismissed the Pretender, so she's standing there in just her ordinary body armour, eyes red and face pale. Of course, she's barely moved from Lily's side through the whole process of loading her in to the pod.]

That might be a problem. Our ship doesn't have human food on it, or even air. And the cold sleep machines are not compatible with organics, either...

...I can wear a suit, bring supplies. There are - I'm sure there are drugs I can take to sleep through the trip, so I'll need less air, food...

There has to be something I can do. Some way my powers can help. I have to try...

[But how long will it take to get her ready to go, and how much will her presence slow the trip? Will Shifter powers even work, far from Earth? It's easy to tell she knows the problems with what she's saying, but she says it anyway.]

We're leaving as soon as the generator finishes charging, in a few minutes. Can you prepare all this stuff in such short time? Every hour might make a difference, Laura.

[Tears start to run down her cheeks as her voice cracks. She looks away from Winberrl at Lily in the pod, a hand on the glass.]

Can you really help her? Is there... will she...

[The Angel Force agents are all on the verge of tears themselves, even if the guys try to hide it.]


We can live for a short moment without a heart, if we get a new one soon. The stasis pod can stretch that moment into a much, much longer period.

If Lily's time hasn't run out yet...

I... Don't know. Depends on how long the treatment will take. A couple of weeks at earliest.

If there's any way to get word back and forth... keep me posted. I'd like to be able to write to her, too.

[Her hand moves on the glass. They'll be gone soon...]

Please... if I can't come with her, can you take something along for me? So she can have it when she wakes up.

Do you have anything that can receive Cosmic Ark burst transmissions? They're the only way I know to contact over such long distances. And even then, the message will take a long time to get through...

But I can take whatever you want to give. I'm sure Lily will appreciate it.

Lily's ship is still here. She's taught me a little machine language...

I won't be long.

[And indeed she's not - returning quickly enough that it's likely she ran most of the way from the hangar to her room, for the parts she didn't teleport through. She's carrying two things - a plush Pepen, and a glass flower packed in clear foam in a plastic tube.]

Something of hers. And something I gave her.

Tell her I'll try to find a way to send a message. And if I can follow you, I will. And... I'll see her soon.
