Discovery #30 (with apologies to Roads)

1. [After the last fight, Werter can be seen where he left it - inside the mech-sized Prometheus in the middle of the village, keeping up the plasma field around it to stop the moisture from escaping while work is being done on a more permanent solution. He can't do anything for now but watch the workers, so needless to say, he's bored.]

Not all of a hero's work can be exciting, I guess. I wish I brought a book.


2. [After the town is protected again, Werter (and Prometheus as well) can be seen in an unused room on the Chalice where he tended to disappear over the last few weeks. Only it's not unused anymore, but filled with various lab equipment - stuff he already had, or traded, or borrowed. A lot of it is improvised, including pots and glasses taken from the ship's dining room, and the primitive computer used by Prometheus to communicate with humans can be seen in the corner. Werter looks over his work, including a note on the door:

WOLF* CHEMISTRY LABORATORY
Assistants welcome.
* - not to be mistaken with Clan Wolf]

Well, this is nowhere near close the level of the lab back at college, but it should be enough for my experiments. Just one last thing...

[Werter takes a white lab coat from a nearby rack and puts it on in one smooth gesture. So does Prometheus - yes, apparently someone made a tiny lab coat just for him. They stand next to each other, arms crossed with confidence.]

There. My vacations were long enough. Time for science.

[Pit takes it and pages around it curiously. To feel demeaned by being given such a book despite being older than Werter he'd have to realize it's a kid's book, which he doesn't]

[Prometheus pokes Pit's leg. He's holding Werter's portable console in his hand.]

Oh, what's this? [He picks it up and looks it around for a few seconds, to find where the on-switch is]
It's on the underside, Pit.
Ah, thanks! [And he turns it on and the logos come in]
Oh, it's just a small video player? Pretty handy being so small, though. Is it a travel model or something? "New Super Mario Bros, Press Start"? Okay!

How do you keep nicking my stuff without me noticing, Prometheus?

Ahem. It's not a player, it's a game. You control it with the buttons down there below the screen. Just don't delete my saves by accident.

[And Pit tries, and moves the little plumber around for a bit.]

Okay, so with this I make him move, and with this he jumps... so what am I supposed to do here?
Well, you can't go left, so clearly you must reach a place to the right. [Palutena seems quite amused by this whole thing]

You seem to know what video games are about, invisible lady. Didn't you come from the same world as him?

[Pit's too busy trying to discover what this new white costume does to answer. Palutena, however, chuckles.]

That sounds pretty sweet. I wonder if you can go to college for goddessry...
[Palutena is clearly not entirely serious here, from the tone in her voice]
That said, I didn't actually use them here. I'm just quicker to get how new stuff works than Pit is.

[Palutena chuckles] Quite bold of you, to ask boons from a goddess so conversationally. But that's how humans are, after all.

Well... perhaps, perhaps not. Just giving people straight answers, at least without them providing some heroic feat or such, is really kind of tacky. And cheaty.
Is that why you never tell me where the pepper is?

In any case, you can try asking, if you want. I don't know about this world like I know about my own, though - and even if I give you the answer I can't promise it will be to your liking, so make sure before you ask.
