Ah. I can understand that. My partner tends to do most of his own... studying when I'm not around. ['Damn that assbird.'] It's good to see that you're taking your own schooling so seriously, though. Most kids would kill to have all this free time.

It isn't as though there are many teachers or scholars aboard the ship as it is. With Garderobe offboard, we don't have any real school to speak of, to be honest. I've heard hearsay that someone's interested in upsetting that status quo, though I'm uncertain how far along they are in that regard.

[Upon closer inspection, there are some small scars here and there, in random patterns around her back...they're the sort of sunken-in kind of scar, that make a few bits of her back look like an orange peel.]

I, um... sorry if I'm being too pushy. I'm just worried. Those don't look fresh. Or at least, not since-we-came-aboard-the-Chalice fresh.

[Jukai does, after all, know what scars look like. She's had quite a few in her time, and if Yui cares to look she'll find marked skin everywhere, including a few large scars that don't seem to be healing right.]

No...No, they aren't. Now that I'm here I don't have to worry about getting any more of them, either...Earlier, I was checking to see how some bruises I had when I arrived were doing, and...well, they're gone.

It seems you've taken a few knocks as well.

You'd be surprised how much the gangs get after you if you oppose their "protection" details too much. Or if you take back things that aren't theirs. Or if you pick fights to protect people that are just in the wrong place at the wrong time...
