Fourth minute
[After the sickbay is more or less devoid of other patients, or at least he presumes so, Ryo finally checks himself in following the battle. The TSX got by without damage, but Ryo himself is a different story and he pulls up a seat before grabbing a nearby hand-mirror and taking a look at his face. His eyes have been feeling a little achey and...
[Oh. Although it's faint, several flecks of carmine are visible in his irises.]
... So it's finally happening, isn't it?
I should see is Loraine has some cosmetic contact lenses lying around.

Dr. Gloss? Could you spare a moment or two?
no subject
Is it important?

Do you remember what I talked to you about before... about how there would be side effects from me piloting the TSX?
They're starting to show.

[She stood up] How do you feel?
no subject
It feels like there's a slight pressure, around and behind my eyes. Other than that, I can't really say I feel any different.

[She paused, and hesitated.]
I haven't asked before, but have you thought about whether there's anything you want to do before... your end?

The Fafners need to be completed. The TSX is sufficing for now, but it's yet to encounter a Festum yet, and it'll be found wanting when the time finally comes for it.
And, well now that I'm really putting thought into things... I'd like to see the island one more time.

But the Festum... they're something else. There's other aliens that have been harassing us but those things are something else. It's been thirty years since Japan's destruction and nobody managed to come up with any solution for them until just recently. And thirty years is a long time; and with all the developments with mobile suits and Getter Rays and everything else... it feels we're no closer to finding a solution to stopping him.
... And, I guess that's why. That's why this is something I take so seriously.

Doctor, please. I'd probably pass out halfway through.

If you haven't already.

Now that this explanation is over, time for something completely different. He points at his eye, then at Ryo's face, and looks at him questioningly.]

It's nothing. Just a side-effect of piloting the TSX. It doesn't have a normal control scheme, after all.

Well, my eyesight's not suffering at the very least...

Gah... Where have you gone, you little fiend...?
[Not shown on the picture: glasslessness.]

I take it these are yours?

Ryo Masaoka... and I take it the robot's yours?

Tired, really. I certainly did a lot of running around. And firing a gun for the first time is always an experience.
no subject
I'll bet. You're always looking worn out but this is the first time I've seen you in combat.

Hey, you okay?

Oh. Yeah I should probably do that too actually.

[There. Mention that. Hopefully Tohya will just think Ryo's in there only for that.]

I just recently got that strange robot, Coustwell. The piloting system is... strange. Only Calvina and I seem to be able to use it. And it pilots like instinct, at least for me. I don't really know what it's doing to me, but I should probably see if it has any side effects. I mean... the thing uses sparkly crystals made from green energy. That can't be normal.
[Yeah... also that.]

[Ryo shuffles a little. Yeah, he's familiar with those from the horror stories he's heard about how the Festum operate.]
Yeah... I can see why you'd be concerned. I guess you could say there's something similar going on with my machine.
No crystals yet, but the TSX isn't the safest machine around.
