[Well, this was a fine barrel of fish that Cynthia wished she'd been in. Though she had relative freedom to move about the ship, she had to be escorted everywhere. She couldn't get a proper line through to Kids Munt to ask the questions that'd been plaguing her, her game buddy was hospitalized, and she's surrounded by wierd people. She's not allowed to leave in Dominator, either... and to top it off, they're slowly starving her!

People may notice the quiet, somewhat mopey, pink-haired girl around the ship, as well as her escorts...but she won't notice you at all. Cynthia's doing her best to cope with stress by losing herself in artificial reality, whether it be simulators or her own portable gaming device.

[Still, Haruka sits down and tries out the game. Her unit of choice? NEO GRANZON.]

[Cynthia only snickers at this descision. The Neo-Granzon's warping ability has been removed when players use it, and the machine's way too slow to cover all three shuttles at once. Good luck!

Shuttle 1's under attack! Zakus and Z'goks charge in to beat on them, while Lions and Union Flags assault it from the air! And there's a lone Rick Dias across the map, attacking Shuttle 3 by itself!]

[Everything's going fine for Haruka at first. And then she tries actual combat.]

They're still pretty far off...Wyrm smasher!

[Nothing happens.]

...EEEEEEEEEH?!

You can't just start with a finishing move like that. You gotta build up SP first!

A wide single projectile that behaves similarly to a railgun, but fires a purple projectile.
What looks like a funnel on your screen and is probably some kind of remote attack.
A greyed out cannon, symbolizing a long range super attack of some kind.

Skills are grayed out, but you will have...some kind of triangle, and a picture of Shuu Shirakawa's eyes.]

[Shuttle 1's down to half HP already! Shuttle 2 is under attack now! Your AI teammates are next to useless!]

Wyrm Smasher's not a finishing move! It's like head vulcans!

[Granzon spasms around at Haruka's control, then starts to calm down and start spamming the single projectile at foes.]

How do I build up SP, anyways?! I need to Shukutai Hō them outta here!

[The mooks crumble to the large gravity blasts, not needing more than a shot or two. Shuttle 1's in the clear for now, though it's smoking and has low HP.]

Your SP builds as you hit things and take damage. Go get Shuttle 2!

[Shuttle 2's down to about half HP, still under assault. One of your teammates blows up.]

Roberto! I expected better from you!

[Cue jetting around and firing like a spastic madman.]

WHY AM I SO SLOW?! My Granzon's way better than this, and it's just a modification of the normal one!

[ Don't mind Char, Cynthia. He's actually curious about that device in your hand, and how intently you're staring at it and pressing buttons on it. So much that he's actually trying to get a peek at it as he walks past you. ]

[A small, pink SD version of a Zaku II is fighting against a team of Guntanks, Guncannons, and GMs. There's a loud warning siren as the boss appears...

It's a Gundam!

The RX-78 charges into the hail of gunfire from her allies, quickly dispatching them as Cynthia dodges left and right. She spins and pulls out a bazooka, firing off three quick shots before throwing the thing into its face to retreat behind some cover.

She doesn't even seem to notice you yet.]

[ He stopped to watch, now. At first he thought she was playing as him, but it was pink, not red. Interesting that she had chosen to play as Zeon.

He wasn't even aware there were video games based off of the One Year War, much less that there was a fight against White Base's crew.

Out of curiosity, he's now waiting to see how she'd handle a fight against the Gundam, as well as to see if a Core Booster would make an appearance. He had hoped his sister would be given her proper due, seeing as she wasn't too bad herself in a fight. She killed one of the Black Tri-Stars, after all. ]

[Cynthia's Zaku peeks out from behind cover, firing its machine gun into an explosive tank behind the Gundam. The boss flinches, and she takes the oppourtunity to go in and swing with her Heat Hawk. The physical blows stun the boss for a few seconds, before knocking it over. She dashes back behind another building as the boss flashes on the ground, indicating an invincible state. It gets back up and attempts to chase.

Boom! A teammate's got a Zaku that drops landmines, and Cynthia just led the RX-78 right into them. She peppers the head with her gun while it flails in the mines, dashing in for another heat hawk combo. She swings four times, then her Zaku seems to glow for a moment! The screen turns dark and the action changes to a cutscene, with the Zaku kicking the Gundam in the face, riding its body while unloading machine gun rounds into the torso. It pulls out a fresh bazooka and fires it, point blank, into the face!

The Gundam explodes. MISSION COMPLETE! Cynthia licks her lips, and finally looks up from the game to scan the roo-HOLY OVERMEN ITS THE RED COMET.]

...Y-y-you're...C-char Aznable, aren't you?

[ The Red Comet smiles at her reaction. It was strangely cute, and flattering, even if it was coming from someone who looked like they were underdressed, even for the beach. ]

That's correct. I didn't know anyone had made a video game based on the One Year War.

You are Cynthia Lane, then?

Um, yeah! [Omigosh he knows me!]

This game's not based entirely on the war, just certain missons...it features a lot of real world mecha from all sorts of factions.

There's even "ace" units like the red Zaku II and Z'gok you piloted, though they have special quirks the basic units don't have.

[ Char laughs at this. ]

I suppose they're 'three times faster', then? A pretty common myth.

Actually, yeah. They get a speed boost at half armor integrity, and become three times faster than their normal speed. They can also equip a single, powerful melee kick as a weapon. Pretty silly huh...

The kick's pretty over-exaggerated. It only happens that few people expect to be kicked by a mobile suit.

With some of the people on this ship, I wonder...

I've been watching videos of some past missions in my downtime. This ship's got a pretty strong force on it! And you guys are allied with a bunch of terrorist groups, too. It's pretty cool.

Any given government can declare anyone they don't agree with a 'terrorist group.' One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

It's all based on perspective, huh...guess it makes sense. Any good game's got at least two sides.

The Titans, for example, have become so oppressive that even former Federation pilots are turning against them. A good example would be Amuro Ray, as well as my sister.

Team up with yesterday's enemy to defeat the forces of evil, huh?

[She giggles, looking up at the legendary ace she'd admired for so long. He wasn't a bad person, actually really nice, and down to earth. Kinda cute, too, without the mask.]

Hmm..all right! I've decided, then. You can count on me for support in the future, Red Comet. I'm joining your party!

[Cynthia Lane has joined the party! ...wait, what does that even mean?]

They put me in some room somewhere...it's comfy but they're guarding the door.

Well... you did attack us after all. They're probably still thinking of you as a Prisoner of War or something.

I'm doing fine, but they're keeping me in the clinic for a while still...

When I was in the training to see who would pilot Dominator, I kept winning...and winning...and winning.

The other pilots left after getting beaten by me. The only friend who kept coming back during that time...was you.

But...did I make the other pilots go away? Did I...

They probably got kicked out for not being good enough. You know... like they failed a test...

Yeah...that's probably true. I don't think President Kids Munt is a bad person who'd let that kinda thing happen...

So, what's a game champ like you doing on this ship, anyway? I thought you lived farther up north?

Yeah... I was in a Domepolis in Siberia, but... I got caught up with an Exodus, then they had this ship help them out.

I couldn't really deal with the people on the Exodus people so I stayed on board the Chalice.

It's... been interesting at least... Far less annoying that being hunted by the Siberian Railway as criminals, or staying in Yapon which is full of all kinds of giant monsters on a daily basis.

So I've heard! You guys were dealing with all kinds of mid-boss tier things...Angels and FESTUM and even those morons at Adventus...

It's like trouble finds you.

Adventus is more like high-end bosses. Obviously not the final, but... They're pretty high rated.

If it weren't for finding that Overman, I'd probably be stuck on the Exodus dealing with monsters in Yapon. It's kind of the lesser of two evils...

Hey, but things could be worse. You could be stuck in a Dorbeck or something mook-tier.

Your Overman's actually kinda neat. You named it after your gamer handle?

I'd rather not pilot anything at all if that's the case...

It asked for a name before it would turn on so... I just put in my gamer handle. Right after I became game champ at that.

Oh wow, so, actually not too long ago. You sure pilot it well considering that.

I've been piloting Overmen for as long as I can remember, like my mom before me.

Only a few months. The controls are really like OverBattler so, it was easy to pick up. And I'm still learning a lot of King Gainer's moves.

Your mom was a pilot too?

Mhm! And one of the best, too. Sir Kids says piloting Overmen's in my blood.

But to think, all those years of playing video games can make you such a good pilot...it's pretty cool.
