Ten Years looking For the Luck

1] Adette has a big cardboard box in her arms closed up tight, and a big smirk on her face. She looks down at the list of names shes scribbled on the top of the box I hope I can find everyone... It had taken all year to round everything up in preparation for this evening, it was the last night of the year after all and she could not let it go by without observation.
[[Adette has gifts for everyone she has CR for. Why is she passing them out tonight instead of last week? Maybe you should ask her.]]
2]It's was 15 minutes to midnight, and Adette was filling up your glass without invitation. "You're got to try this. Vodka from home town." A pretty, drunk, grin, as she rests her chin on her hand. "Any good resolutions?"
no subject
"You friends on the ground probably already figured this out, but we celebrate a big late compared to the rest of the world it seems. Seems to be some ancient calender mix-up, but I stopped trying to question it." Adette grinned. "Are you serious Resnick? Just open the damned thing! It has nothing to do with getting something back, sheesh." Adette would have been insulted if she hadn't already had a few drinks before she got started on this santa-esq adventure.
Inside his box, that was wrapped hastily in newsprint, was a tin of at least two dozen truffles, sloppy but delicious, and made by your fave blonde drunkard.
"I couldn't think of a single thing I could get you you might use, so..."
no subject
He opened the truffles, looked quizically at them too, before popping one into his mouth. Experimental chewing and swallowing followed. "Great Father's Ghost, these are delicious!"
Wait. They were delicious. They were Terran sweets. That meant, if anyone saw them...
He quickly and furtively hid them in his jacket.
no subject
Adette grinned, so this was truly his weakness.
"Wait till you see what I got for Ranna!" Any self respecting earth woman would know what the size and shape of that box meant.
Shoes.
" I'm not much of an artist with food, but no one ever complains about the taste, that's for sure. Don't worry, I won't tell."
no subject
He looked down at the box. Being neither Terran nor a woman, he had no idea what was in it, but was immediately prepared to be jealous of whatever it was.
"I am to understand tonight is also a night of celebration, quiaff?"
no subject
"Yes. It's New years." Adette said it as if it should mean something to him, then realizing that was silly, started over. "It's the time of year the calender starts over, and we celebrate being alive for another year. At midnight you make a wish, have a drink, get a kiss, you know, fun things!"
no subject
Of course the midnight kiss thing would be new to him, but not shocking. Many of the Warrior caste would probably have gone farther than that by midnight.

"In the domepoli Christmas and new years are kind of the same thing, or they go together anyways. But everyone on the ship is from so many difference places, with so many customs I know it can be overwhelming. I was in your shoes last year after all." Adette smirked a little. "I was about to go join the party after I finish this." She hefted the box a little. "But it's likely I'lll see them at the party later. Shall we have a little pregame?"

At the surprise refill, he clinked glasses with her and downed it. Things seemed to be going OK. Noone had gotten tossed through a window by one of the elementals and noone had mistaken any of the aerospace pilots for kids and thrown them out. "From the big distillery we had to fight in front of? How fitting."
no subject
But there did seem to be a rather sexy looking young woman with short black hair was straddling one of his men's laps with a long pipe in her hand. Adette felt a little jealous that that kind of youth had already passed her by long ago.
"I try not to drink anything else these days. I feel like... I both owe it to them, and deserve it, ya know?" She hed up her glass to his before throwing it back. "So, what will you wish for in the near year, hummmm?"
no subject
"Aff." He nodded, approving of her loyalty. He thought a few moments over what he wanted..."A bloodname. And to finally put this thing with my sibkin to rest."
no subject
"Sounds like a lofty wish indeed, but I'll drink to that." She held her glass out for a toast, before tossing it back, and refilling bother immediately. "What would it mean, if you did get these things? It would be a shame if you became to important to drink with me."
no subject
"A bloodname grants me prestige, a seat on the clan council and guarantees that my genes will be used to create the next generation. As for my sibkin..." He looked off into the distance of the party. "We recently captured her. She was...trothkin to Isaac." Clan Warriors didn't say 'love' but it wouldn't be too difficult to figure out. "...the one I killed." Quick, stop him before he starts brooding.
no subject
She poked him with a devious finger in the side, where the skin she remembered under his uniform was softest.
"War will make widows of all someday. But this is no time for pouting! You know they say: what you sow on new year you will reap all year long. So better to be bolstered by your misfortune at a time like this, than to let it darkened you spirits." All the same, Adette tried not to think of Cynthia. And then her own hopes for the future. She refilled the glasses. "There is only one cure to brooding I know, and that, Resnick my dear friend, is to drink until you can not longer remember them."
no subject
He repeated the procedure. Yes, there was a definite smoky aftertaste to this vodka. Little did he know that was because someone had burnt wishes in it earlier.
"And what are you hoping for?"
no subject
Adette laughed, it seemed so strange to get to pick your last name, and there being no marriage involved.
It was funny to see him saw Ranna's name like that, after all, she had become one of Adette's best friends since she came here, and she love Ranna and Resnick both very much. She didn't want to see her friend fighting, but theirs was a world she would never fully understand no matter how she tried.
"I think either name isn't nearly as important as who you are. But the first one certainly is easier to say." She laughed aloud. "You could take my name, Resnick Kistler has a nice ring to it, don't it?" A joke, and a poor attempt at one, but the liquor was making it q bit hard to remain very witty.
"It would sound funny to you I guess, but, an end to the fighting, at least for the Siberians on the Chalice. So I can take Gainer away from here, and Cynthia too if she wants to go. Hopefully to a place where Micheal is too, and we could all live together as some fucked up family unit." She blushed and put her chin on her hand. "But it won't happen. I just don't have anything else to wish for."
no subject
He nodded. "I do wish for the same thing though. A Warrior lives for battle, but it is much better when it is not close to home, quiaff?" He thought about her clearly strong feelings about this. Though he'd been able to observe it, the wish to build a family was still an alien urge to him. Well, mostly. There was one way in which he understood..."I suppose I should try to get along with Gainer more then. Perhaps if I introduced him and Madeline..." Honestly man, they're getting a bit old for playdates. "I do not think it is as impossible as you make it sound. When he can resume his duties, you will go with him, quiaff? Surely Gainer and Cynthia can follow."
no subject
"Gainer thinks you're all barbarians, but then, that isn't entirely untrue is it? Nothing personal, but you all are about the most sophisticated group of barbarians I'm likely to ever meet!" She laughed aloud and drank her vodka, feeling just about good and drunk at this point, and it showed on her face, in the way she smiled and laughed. "I don't know honestly. I don't even know if he would want me to go with him, or if the children would want to come either. Cynthia and I aren't close, but I'd take if she was wanted to come. I feel bad for them both. I made the choice to fight when I was old enough to be an adult. They both where swindled into this, and neither of them will quit. I just hope.... we get Cynthia back in one piece." She paused and look at her glass. "I'd probably make a terrible mother-figure anyways. The only bottle I ever have handy is this one." She shook the vodka bottle, which was getting dangerously close to empty.
no subject
He gave a quick glance around, making sure none of his Warriors were getting too rowdy. The elemental with the black haired woman seemed pretty into her but so far nothing violating the (to him) arbitrary Terran taboo against public foreplay.
"They are not children still in the creche. They are almost ready to leave the sibko...ah, the nest? The home? Still, they will need someone to look up to and be a guide to them." Implicitly, he believed Cynthia still alive. The Railway would have used her as a hostage if they intended to harm her, he thought.
He downed the rest of his drink and looked at hers. Where could they get more of those? If that distillery had Adette as their exclusive customer they were sure not to fail...
