[In a moderately sized, still largely in tact town being a doctor was an easy thing; people weren't going to hurt you. In fact, you were one of the people afforded a certain degree of protection.]

[Things weren't exactly the same on a vessel that would see a lot of combat. It was more prudent seeming for everyone to be armed and capable...]

[... and sure, you couldn't normally fire guns on a ship, but Loraine had gotten permission to set up a makeshift shooting range on the promenade.]

[So from a relatively empty room on the promenade there is the sound of gunshots, and Loraine holding a pistol, firing quite deliberately away from the end of the room with the door]

[She's an awful shot, but... that's why she's practicing at all.]

You've... never fired one before, have you?

I read about a bit about how to do it, so I'm not entirely in the dark, but... no.

I see. I could give you some advice, but, I'm not accustomed to side arms.

Plus, I'm not so certain you should be firing live rounds on the ship. I've brought some training guns with me, if you'd like to try that?

I got permission and some precautions set up, but I won't say no to that.

These are the guns we Witches use for target practice.

I... was thinking I'd be more of a side arm person. I'm not that strong in the place, let alone used to recoil.

[[Nonetheless, she'll hand you one]]

They have a little weight to them, but they're nothing like the real thing. Here, at least give it a try.

[[And though they do have some weight to them, it's not dramatic.]] The kickback shouldn't be too bad. They're loaded with paint rounds after all. It's only compressed air, not gunpowder.

[She held the weapon's handle in one hand and braced the body of it with the other. She really didn't know what she was doing though...]

Well, I've never found myself needing to shoot something when I couldn't have computer assisted aiming. Which is good because I just really don't have the knack for it.

Sounds like you should practice too.

[He sounds remarkably unenthusiastic about the idea.]

It's not called practice because it's fun. [Hands him a pistol]

[He mutters something about savages, but takes the pistol and starts aiming for the target next to Loraine's.

It looks like you could use a few lessons, if you're planning on using that to defend yourself.

Although come to think of it, aren't doctors not supposed to harm anyone?

And the oath, which there isn't any institution forcing people to take it any more anyway, is about practicing proper medicine.

And I suppose even if people were enforcing the Geneva Convention anymore, you'd qualify as a combat medic.

Well, I get paid for combat instruction here, and I can definitely teach you how to use a sidearm if you like.

Combat medic. I wonder. I don't go into combat. But yeah, let's go with that.

Well, the first thing you need to do is fix your stance...

[Tsukasa stood to the back, watching her do so. Her stance was terrible and her shots worse. But it looked like real effort there.]

Loraine you're wasting ammo that way. Here.

[Holds out the RideBooker for her to try and use.] Try this. I've got unlimited shots from this thing. It handles like a real gun.

[Staring at the gun offered to her]

That's right. I'm not entirely sure how it works but... [He aimed at the target, and squeezed off several bursts at about the amount of a normal clip and it kept going.]

It never runs out of ammo. Especially when you consider what's inside it as well. [holds it open revealing his Rider Cards and nothing else.]

I think you should find a scientist and let them look at your gun.

Perhaps. It might benefit others. Though RiderGear is fairly unique.

[He spun it around, twisting it as a sword erupted from it.] Two modes as well. And the blade is strong enough to cut through anything. [And he slid his fingers up the length, not even cutting himself before returning it to normal.]

You should really get a scientist to study that thing then.

[A quick twist of the handles and he's holding it out to her, laying flat in his hands.] Go ahead.

[She's been walked through how to fire a gun a few times now, and she takes her time through the process. She's not a great shot... but it's mostly a lack of experience]

[Circling around to inspect it, he gave a few suggestions here and there, adjusting the way she held it with both hands obviously, and widening her stance so she wouldn't have to worry about recoil.]

[It improved her aim a bit. Still, she was a long way off from being much of a shot.]

Not bad. You're making headway into shooting now.
