Far as your heart can see / There's a world that wait for you

"Is... is this thing on?" The camera shakes, and the familiar smirk of one buxom blonde, Adette Kistler comes into view. "There we go. This is Adette reporting back to the White Chalice. I've got a ton of intel for you guys, blue prints, train times, guard rotations, you name. It'll be attached to this video. I've rounded up my own little squad down here, and we're mostly just laying low right now. The Railway patrol is as lax internally as it's even been so we've been slipping in and... loosening some bolts, if you get my meaning. The Power Golame is still safe, and I have yet to be discovered by anyone that might blow my cover." You might notice, as the background comes into focus, that Adette is laying in a hammock that is suspended an awfully long way from the ground. It was in fact hanging from a rafter in a storehouse willed with crated, her usual flashy red attire was replaced by a worn cream blouse, and lavender pea coat, her hair pulled back in french braids, and without the usual make up, she almost didn't look like the same woman (though the harsh florescent lights up here was less than flattering). "I'll check back in soon. But for now know that I'm safe, and the mission is right on track." She flashes a thumbs up and smirks. "By the time you guys get here, I might have taken down the whole railway myself."

Along with the recon data there are two private messages attached.
[Private To Gainer Sanga]

Gainer, if I come back and find out you played that video game for some ungodly amount of time instead of going and socializing I swear I'll make you regret it!!
[Private to Resnick]

"Dislodging the Railway might take a bit more muscle than he previous anticipated. Look over the numbers I sent you. We've been able to sneak into one hanger and sabotage a few machines, and a full scale sabotage mission would be planned, but only as a prelude to an immediate attack, they would catch onto us to quickly." There's a cold sort of look in her eyes as she speaks, all business, which was rather unlike her. "Otherwise everything is going swimmingly down here. When do you expect to be joining me? Also if you see Allesandra will you remind her about that thing I asked her to do? I'll be waiting for your reply."
------
After the messages where sent Adette laid there in her hammock on a long with staring at the screen. She wondered how soon it would take to get a response? She really hadn't any idea how long it would even take to get to them.
Somewhere below her she listened to the sounds of the men working, they where building something, Adette couldn't remember what.
Her thoughts drifted back over the last few weeks. She had been reunited with her brothers, and a few other old friends, but only the ones she trusted. When she had shown them pictures of the world outside Siberia there was no way they could not help her, suddenly the tremble of revolution was starting to grow. Driven by the knowledge Adette brought to them they did what they could to upset the system of the Railway with out putting themselves into to much trouble. It was better to be a pebble in the cogs, than grease on the wheels of the oppressors machines.
It was all quite exhilarating, but it was a waiting game, and all to often Adette found herself idle and sober, a combination that left her with nothing but her own thoughts....

His hand unconsciously reached out, and then he jerked it back as if touching something too hot. It was so much easier when he'd isolated himself, living only for his duty, having no contact outside of battle besides the occasional bed partner, kicked out as soon as they were done. To live only for his own ambition seemed so much less complicated a life at that point.
"Aff. We will wait."
When something exploded, he was ready to tell the dropships to lift off right then to get her out. But it was only her men mishandling something. He listened carefully to the outburst in a foreign language. "...Is it not rude to say that about someone's mother?"
no subject
Adette didn't fail to see him move his hand, she knew it was an unconscious reaction, but that only seemed to make it worse. She frowned, her eyebrows pressing in.
"Ay, it's rude, but his mother is a goat-fucker, so it's alright." A joke, or rather, a poor attempt at one. Adette didn't feel much like laughing now.
She had thought after weeks of thinking long and hard about their situation she would have the courage to uphold her own decisions, but it was hard to look at him and not want to smile, to tease him, to delight in his reactions.
But this would only lead her down the same path as before, and they would fall back into the same old habits. Adette wasn't going to let this happen.
"If there's anything else you want intel on, let me know. The mech and munitions counts are hard numbers, all confirmed. I would guess at least another week and a half, maybe two... I'm waiting on a guy on the inside." Back to the straight face, back to calm and collected 'Big Sis', back to acting like nothing had even happened between them.

Ironically her businesslike demeanor only made him miss her more. He wouldn't have bedded down with a woman (or man) who wasn't a Warrior themselves, and this side of her attracted him more than any skimpy outfit she might wear.
But transmission time was at a premium, so he couldn't babble on about that. Just one thing though.
"Oh and beware when you and Bondsman Keijinan are reunited. He has declared his intention to...to..." He's barely holding it together. "...ask you to marry him." And he can no longer hold the laughter in, deep and hearty, like a Viking with a bucket of mead singing a bawdy song.

"Great, we're going to need all the help we can get. I'm certain we can capture a few units, maybe four, tops. But again, this whole operation will have to be carried out hours before you guys arrive and not a moment sooner. I'll get the guys on a plan and we'll have something solid for you by tomorrow." If Adette knew that Resnick liked this better she would have been really confused anyways. The cold shoulder seemed like the perfect way to handle this, but it seemed Resnick was more complex that she though.
"And you went and blabbed about it! These things are usually meant to stay a surprise, you know! Now you've ruined whatever devious little plans he was hatching, you could have at least given him the courtesy of keeping you big mouth shut. Look I have to go, there's work to do." She reached up to turn off the camera but stopped. There was a conflict building, as her heart tried to tell her mouth what it should say, but her brain vetoed each and every line. She was stuck for a moment, her lips parted slightly, hanging on the edge of something, but unable to say it.

He rolled his eyes at her attempt at fair play. "Then go ahead and play dumb. I am sure you can act surprised while he thrusts gifts at you and composes sonnets." Aside from whatever they'd been doing, his entire conception of romance came from secondhand explanations, opera, sitcoms and Devon and Cheng.
He saw her hesitate. She'd had that same look when they were out on the ice. "...Aff?"
no subject
A bit over anxious aren't ya Resnick?
"Down boy. Wait for a plan. I promise, there will be a battle, just be patient."
Watching him roll his eye was almost comical, Adette would giggle over it later, when she wasn't on camera.
"Why do you care what he dose for me anyway? Are you jealous?!" There was a sharp edge to her words, barbed and poisoned as it lashed at him from seemingly no where.
"Forget it, I have to get back down there and help. Just do your job, and I'll do mine. That was the deal, remember?" She hesitated for a moment, although no sound came out, Adette's lips moved to mouth the words.
Forgive me.
And then screen went blank, without waiting to find out if he was going to say anything or not, she just turned off her console and shoved it under her pillow angrily.

Someone from a gender-unequal society would have interpreted her sudden burst of anger as the jealousy of woman. Instead, he'd mentally assigned it to the category of Adette reactions. They were unpredictable and could appear at any moment. They followed their own arcane logic. And they were challenging to deal with, something he craved.
Naturally she was forgiven of her outburst as soon as the request for it left her lips. But was that all she was asking forgiveness for? What was she planning?
Of course. He mouthed back as she reached to turn it off.
Offense... or defense support?
The clanswoman pings the other end of the previous connection as she waits, walking away with the comm unit.
Re: Offense... or defense support?
The screen blinks back on, and it's not Adette, but a beard old man on the screen. He stares at the screen stupidly for a moment and then turns and yells.
"Adette, your computer is looking at me!!"
From across the room you can head Adette disgruntled noises.
"Seriously! I just got off the phone with him, what the hell dose he want?!" She pushed the old man aside.
"What the hell do you- Oh! Hi... Ranna." She laughed uncomfortably as the few men in the store room gathered in around behind her.
no subject
Ranna smiles fondly. "Friends of yours?"
no subject
She turned and gave the men a stern look, and then seemed to clear off.
"Back to work! The railway isn't going to dismantle itself!" They quickly scattered, and Adette scooped up the comm computer and carried it over to a pile of crates and sat down with it.
"Sorry about that. What do you need? Did you look over the data I sent already?"
no subject
She inclines her head, "What of yourself? How are you holding up?"
no subject
"Holding up? I'm not in a prison camp, ya know. I've got everything I need here, and my own little squad of revolutionaries. Everything is just peaches and ice cream down here." Adette shrugged, it was obvious that her feelings where not entirely in tune with her words.
"I'll be happy when this is over though. This all one chapter of my life I'm ready to leave behind."
no subject
"I am certain many of us will be happy as well when this is over. Some more than others, certainly."
