[Chrono's taken it upon himself to expand his skill set, as he's well aware that a stick that shoots laser beams is, sadly, not appropriate for all situations. To that end, he's sitting in the cockpit of the unused Lion and attempting to get a feel for the controls.] I'm surprised this isn't more complicated. Considering the controls on the Asura and such, I was expecting knobs and levers everywhere. This is fairly simple.

[He's getting used to it fairly quickly, but he's not feeling quite good enough to take it out for a spin by himself... not that he has the clearance for that without approval, anyway. His authority only really extends to the Asura and the two girls under his command. Anyone want to help him figure out what buttons he's pushing?]

[It's Singles Awareness Day, and here's a poor sap that wants nothing to do with girls save where it's needed for the mission. He's already dodged his mother wanting to talk to him about his prospects, he's not entirely certain he even wants to talk to anything remotely female until the day's up. Dita? [Sure enough, as he starts toward her, he sees... something, though he's not entirely certain what yet.] I certainly feel something there, which is good. I'm obviously not going to tell you to spy on people to practice, particularly not today, but the only way to get better with search magic is to use it.

Happy to be returning to gravity? We've been in space for a while again.

[She nodded.] I'm used to space, but being on Earth is nice. I feel a little more alive to be honest. And you?

[Chrono shrugs.] I've lived in space for most of the last several years, at least. It's not that I dislike gravity, but I'm used to running missions in space. Then again, I've been to Earth once before... I was trying to forget that time, frankly, it was a travesty.

Sounds rough. At least we're getting back onto mostly solid ground now. And now you can help out too if need be. I'd imagine flying in space is difficult for mages.

Mm... I managed to make our Barrier Jackets space-capable right before we left Earth last, but frankly I don't want to test it out if I don't have to. Fighting in areas with atmosphere suits me just fine, so I'll be working hard while we're down here to make up for lost time.

That's true. We had to do some retrofitting of the Dreads to make them atmo-worthy.

Guess we all have places we don't normally fly. Aside from our spaceships, Bureau mages are worthless out of atmosphere.

[Chrono is visibly fishing for something else to talk about. After a moment's deliberation:] How hard is it to pilot a robot?

Not too hard, depending on which one you start with. There's a few Vanguards available on the Nirvana, and they're pretty intuitive to use.

Thinking about learning how?

Yeah... For all the versatility magic has, there are some things it's not well suited for, and even that's on a case-by-case basis. Nanoha specializes in power, Fate in speed... I'm more balanced than them, but that just means I don't have an excuse when I get shot down. I want to learn to fly a mecha to make up for that.

That does make sense. I'm sure we could loan you a Vanguard then, if you want to give it a try. The system is pretty easy and we have simulators on board the Nirvana.

That might help... I don't know that we have simulators for anything else. I'll see about trying one of those out, then. Thanks, Dita.

Not a problem. Just put in a request for a pickup or teleport into the bay if you have one of those. That's where we've set up receiving for off-ship stuff.

[Azrad, by this time, looks slightly better than he did after his last deployment. He's no longer coughing blood, but he's still moving slower than usual...

He passes Chrono without saying anything at first, but he senses something that makes him stop...]

[Chrono notes the stranger moving toward him carefully, not sure what his response should be. He concedes:] Can I help you?

[Azrad looks thoughtful. Could this boy be a part of that other group?]

As well...? I wasn't aware we had mages aside from, well, the obvious ones. My Bureau mages, the Witches, that sort. And you look too... rough for those kinds of groups. You've been doing harder work than us, at least.

[A nod.] Aa. I am Azrad, a magic user, like yourself, though not affiliated with any group. I was just as surprised to hear that there were other magus aboard this ship...

[Chrono's words bring him some relief though. There weren't that many magic users here after all.]

Major Sakamoto advised me to seek out your...Bureau, but certain events have delayed my search. Fortunately, it seems I have found the right person in the end.

Ah, Major Sakamoto. That'd make sense, then. I'm Chrono Harlaown, Enforcer, Time-Space Administration Bureau. We're here to prevent an imminent dimensional distortion, and as such are in the process of an intervention, but without more forces behind us that just means we're assisting the Chalice.

Can we help you with anything in particular, Azrad? I'll need to talk to my superiors [my mother, Chrono corrects internally] for anything major, but I'd be happy to see what we can do.

Aa. [Lightly nods.] I am seeking information on potential targets of a dark magician...

[His already serious tone deepens.]

Targets that could be any magical artifact in this world...notably those that are not aboard this vessel.
