Down in the dumps

Things just couldn't see to go right for Kensuke lately. Shinji and Asuka had left, or disappeared, or been relocated, he wasn't sure. And the fact that he hadn't seen battle in a while only made it worse. He had so easily fallen into his old habits of being, and staying alone. He didn't really know how to seek out others, and the longer he didn't talk to others, the harder it became to try.
He found himself sitting on the bridge before Eva Unit 04, staring at it as if he expected it to speak to him or something.
Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, either way this kid needs some cheering up.

" If Shinji and Asuka couldn't cut it, what make me so much better?" He sighed aloud, and longed to run and hide in the woods, with this tent, and his toy guns, and his imaginary army. They never turned their backs on him...

"Huh?" He looked up and saw Rinon standing there and he wished he had not opened his mouth at all. "Nothing. I was just thinking out loud."

"I believe the proper term is 'teen angst'." He leaned back on his hands, looking up her, his glasses sliding down his nose a bit.
"And if you're just going to tell me 'oh cheer up Kensuke, everything great' I really don't want to hear it. Nothing personal. I just can't take any more fortune cookie wisdom today, thanks."

"How is everything great? Dibison got totaled, and even after I sent in the scraps for extra money, it's still taking forever for my replacement to get here! Those Backdraft jerks attack again, and I don't even have a Zoid to take out, unless I borrow Jamie's Pteras."

"Finally!!" Kensuke sighed with relief. "With out a mech? That's terrible! I can't imagine... You must feel really helpless." He gave her a look of empathy.
