It is ancient history by now. The Chozo ruled the galaxy undisputed, and then the Parasite came. It could take the forms of living beings and technology, it could not be killed even when its bodies were destroyed, and it multiplied from its essence no matter how many were destroyed.

So the metroids were created to bypass all this.
