The Hunter's Memories

Another day, another planetary threat exterminated. But Samus has not returned to the White Chalice. Instead she's wandering the ruins, with her new adopted sidekick in tow.

1 (Personal, no one allowed)

Samus is walking through the ruins, in a strange mood. The last time she was here, she was... far too furious to really take in the memories. She had not gone back to Zebes to remember things. She had gone there for vengeance, and vengeance she got.

But these buildings... this is her own old hometown. She walks past a door, and her mind still can show her the image of the lady who lived there. She used to play here, between training sessions. She sat right there to listen to the wisdom of elder Chozo, their tales of ancient days.

She stops cold. That temple. She can still hear Old Bird giving out his good advice from up the stairs - while she waited bored nearby, she remembers, her expression softening. She approaches, walking with a kind of melancholic pace, seeing the architecture. All the few plants still climbing the walls here will probably die soon, out of their native environment. But the temple itself is still as beautiful as she remembered, even under the pale sun of this planet Earth that enters through a hole in the ceiling, illuminating the altars.

Feeling her sadness, the metroid hatchling chirps curiously, flying around her, but Samus simply shakes her head and walks out. And as she walks down the stairs to the temple, she notices there is something out of sync in the signs covering one of the small obelisks that line up besides the stairs. She approaches, kneels... and freezes.

She freezes, because there is a crude carved picture in it.

And as her hand touches the rock and traces the old drawing with its fingers, the mighty bounty hunter, Samus Aran, Ultimate Warrior of the Chozo race, Bane of the Space Pirates, Destroyer of Worlds, for the first time in twelve years... laughs. Laughs even as two tears trace her face. It's not a loud laugh - little more than a chuckle. But it's a pure laugh, that speaks of better times - and a sad one. It speaks of all the memories that will never come back - joyous, but also sad because they will not be continued for now. Perhaps never. Those who she loved more than anyone, and who she does not even know if she will be able to see agin.

She spends a while sitting there, like that, just lost in thought. The hatchling screeches worriedly at her, which snaps her back, however. She gets up, drying her face, and turns to leave. But she stops, looking over her shoulder, doubting for a second, then looking at the small creature next to her. She then turns around completely, taking a power tool out of her gun holster, and heading back for the drawing...

A short while later, as the bounty hunter walks away, there is only a hole where that drawing used to be, as if a whole slab of the stone had been just taken out. On the stairs of the temple, however, a new set of runes has appeared, obviously recently carved with an energy tool. A message that needed to be sent.

"We Still Are"

2 (Open to anyone who would want to come down to the ruins to check on Samus and/or what little Metroid remains are left)

A few hours later, Samus has checked most of the place. She has found a lot of things, the most dangerous or improtant of which she has either reclaimed and already put into her ship or destroyed, and the hatchling continues to follow her everywhere. It seems to be behaving peacefully enough. You can find Samus sitting atop one of the ruined buildings, with the little floating jellyfish zigzagging around playfully like a child on a sugar rush would if children could fly. She seems to be looking at the ruins' horizon line, somewhat lost in thought.

3 (Open to anyone at all, frontdated about a day. Due to this, people can reply to both prompts 2 and 3, of course)

And after a fair amount of time and testing with the people that came down that it seemed safe, Samus finally decides to come back up to the Chalice. Her ship comes back into the hangar, and she comes out, hatchling flying nearby chirping in curiosity at all the new, strange things its senses are picking up. She jumps down from there and starts heading straight for the kitchens. Greet her, question her about her new "adoption", give her a hard time?
