Third Befriending - Extra Training

1. [So you're going about your own business - eating, maybe having a workout or just sitting around. All's well, until you notice an object (or multiple objects) rising into the air nearby. The object(s) suddenly fall (with or without disastrous results), and Nanoha shows up a moment later, looking frantic.]

I'm sorry! Are you hurt?

(For the record, what Nanoha is practicing will eventually evolve into this. It's far from complete at the moment though.)

2. [A wonderful aroma is coming from the kitchen. If you decide to investigate, you'll find this normally destructive nine-year-old working hard. She's following some recipes from a cookbook she bought in Corinth, and despite having to make some improvisations (because the Chalice doesn't have everything), the results are quite amazing.

Nanoha herself looks quite pleased with her work, and she feels better after a little taste-test. Bother?]

Lucchini had just been flying around on her Strikers when a wrench almost hit her. Taking a moment she looked around to see who had cast it.

"Yeah I'm fine," She smiled at her. "No harm done, though I don't think you want the techs to see the mess." She giggled a little. "Some get protective over their stuff."

Ahh, thank goodness...

[She sighs afterwards, seeming quite disappointed.]

...Well, I'll try to clean it up before they get here. And I guess it was a little too early for me to try practicing that on real things...

I can help. [Smiles] What were you doing anyway? Because before they started falling at me it was interesting.

[She returns that smile with her own.] Thank you!

[As for what she was doing...]

Um, Chrono-kun calls it a 'Material Acceleration'-type spell.

I'm supposed to be able to throw things at the enemy using magic, but I'm having a little trouble with the lifting part right now.

[Samus had been passing through when the heavy Harvester piece rose and aimed for her accidentally. The bounty hunter, however, catches it without breaking stride as if it didn't have more mass than a Nerf pellet. She looks at the frantic kid that approaches with the same expressionless face she always wears]

No.

[She then simply motions to give it back, as if nothing happened. Might be a tad heavy for Nanoha to lift by hand, though...]

[And Nanoha just stares, both in awe and trepidation.]

Ah, no...I think it's better if you set it down.

[Nodding, Samus turns for a corner and leaves the thing there. Would be silly to leave junk in the middle of the way where people walk through, after all]

If you are learning telekinetic maneuvering, you should do it in a controlled place. There is a shooting range in the ship.

...I thought about that, but I didn't plan on shooting anything just yet.

[She lowers her head and exhales.]

It really is different from image training.

It is a long open space where people do not cross. Even if you do not intend to aim at the targets, it is a good place to train undisturbed.

Mm. I understand.

[Thinking pose.]

I'll need some help gathering different kinds of objects to practice on though.

[Nod]

The mechanics have been salvaging parts from Harvesters. Enough shape and weight variance. They can spare some.

[And with that, Samus starts towards the hangar, where the parts are being piled up in mounds of junk. Seems she's going to help carry them?]

[Vlaska let out a frantic cry. Why? Because Nanoha's levitating ended up landing his dinner onto him. IT WAS ALL OVER HIS FUR.]

You....

[The word was accompanied by a low hiss and threatening yowl. The cat was giving Nanoha a clear glare of 'you will PAY for this'.]

[What a mess...and that talking cat is giving her the same look Vita did when her hat was wrecked. Not good...]

Ah! I'm really sorry! I'll clean this up right away!

[She disappears for a few minutes and shows up again with some cloth and paper towels in hand.

Time to get to work...but she's not going to touch an angry cat just like that...]

Umm, do you mind if I start with you?

I see. Thank you.

Then...

[Nanoha's about to head there herself, when Samus coolly takes the lead.]

Eh? Samus-san...does this mean...you'll lend me a hand with these?

[Vlaska's hiss lowered into silence. The cat was still looking agitated... but...]

Fine...

[The claws were sheathed. No need to worry about getting scratched.]

[Nanoha gets on it quickly, but thoroughly. A certain ferret-changeling she's worked with has been in similar situations, and this was before she found out that he was actually human...]

There. It's the best I can do for now, but I could help wash you later if you'd like.

[And she smiles while she works on what's on the floor...]

I'll see what I can do about this food, so don't worry about it.

Oh...do you have a name?

[A simple nod as she leads Nanoha down the corridor to the hangar. Talkative girl, isn't she?]

[When they arrive, there are indeed some haphazard mounds of junk all around, where Roads and Lowe have been piling up salvage for later classification. Samus turns at Nanoha.]

Choose which ones you wish to take. I will find a container for ease of transportation in the meantime.

[It would be annoying to have to cart around a bunch of stuff without a box or a bag or something, after all]

Gah!

[Bad timing there, Gentarou! It's pure luck that you were able to get out of the way before those you got smacked! He can't help but blink as he saw Nanoha approaching.]

Ah, don't worry about it. I'm fine. What the heck happened? Someone get clumsy? [he looks up, trying to see if there was anyone passing by...]

I'd chastise you for not practicing in a shielded room, but I'm not sure it'd matter...

[More than the falling items, Chrono notices the the feel of Nanoha's magic all over this. He raises an eyebrow.] And just what are we developing today? Your track record has an amazing history of spells to destroy single targets and rapid controlled projectiles, but this looks like neither.

Vlaska..

[The cat lets out a noise that's the closest feline approximation to a human sigh, followed by rapidly shaking his head and grooming himself to clean up a little.]

Try. Clean. Self. First..... thank. you.

[It's no big deal; Nanoha's always seen Samus as the calm, cool type, with or without that armor on. With that understanding, she adds a simple but sincere "Thank you", and follows quietly. Then, when prompted to choose, she nods.]

Mmh. But I don't think we'll need anything too big for now.

[There are four pieces of varying sizes that she picks out, the largest being slightly bigger than the wheel of a truck (it's actually a portion of one of the Harvester drones' claws).

Now, she had to see what Samus would bring as a container...]

[She's a little hesitant...]

...Actually, it was my doing. I was trying something out, but controlling it is little harder than I expected.

Sorry for surprising you like that.

[Oh crap. Let the nervous laughter ensue.]

Chrono-kun...um...well...

[In the end, she lets out a defeated sigh.]

...It's a little something Raising Heart suggested to me a while ago.

You see, I was thinking that I could use a means of attacking besides relying only on my magic, so one solution is to use what's available wherever I am.

I've done some image training for it in my spare time, but it may be a little too advanced for me right now...

Eh, don't worry about it! No harm, no foul!

[He holds his hand out, realizing he hasn't introduced himself to this one!]

[She takes it immediately and smiles.]

Nanoha Takamachi. Mage and civilian helper for the Time-Space Administration Bureau.
