I fill my lungs with fear and I exhale
If you're looking for the hero that-almost-wasn't today, you'll find in medical ward.
Kensuke lays awake and stares at the ceiling for a long time, the weight of what happened today crushing down upon him. Sure, he had been in other battles before, but he had never stared death in the face like he did this time...
Aside from the heat exhaustion, and battered shoulders, his emotions where still in a state of shock. Kensuke was unsure what to think or feel after a day like that. HE knew he had done his job, albeit he had not done well, the Angel had still been defeated.
That's what was most important right?
The protection of everyone.
The Angel's defeat.
He rolled over and closed his eyes, trying not to left those moments in the lava play through his mind anymore. He needed a distraction, anything to take his mind of those flashes of memory he had long since banished from his mind.

Well I got back from the town and bought way too much. Besides, when I'm down Shirley or Yoshika usually makes hot chocolate to cheer me up, and well I'm horrible in the kitchen. [And this is even with hanging around Tsukasa, Lucchini tends to still make simple mistakes.] Well I've never given them to guys before, back home Witches are usually kept away from male officers. Never did understand that rule...

Kensuke laughed a little, despite himself. She was so cute, to young to understand the significance maybe. He wouldn't let the 'gift' go to his head, but he would enjoy eating them!
"That's really.. sweet of you." He paused while eating a chocolate, it was sweet, not just the taste, but the intention behind it. He couldn't help but grin with adorable-overload.
"Wow I wish I knew more girls like you!"

"For starters, the girls where I'm from, well, they wouldn't come with in a 25 ft radius of me most of time." Kensuke sighed. "Being a nerdy blond with glasses pretty much puts you at the bottom of the pecking order." But then, none of these girls knew he piloted an Eva. 'These' girls didn't see the man he was becoming, now that he had left their ranks, and joined the White Chalice.

"Yeah, you're right!" Kensuke chuckled a little. She was smart for someone so young, but then early maturity was a side effect of being a solider.
"Everyone here does have something special that they can do. It's strange to see so many different kinds of people, and the way they pair off as well."
Love. Love was also a big part of being a solider. Either you you fight to protect it, or fight to gain it.

"At first it was a little scary for me though, I'm used to a smaller military outpost, but a lot of my team's here so it's not as bad. Even if people still look at us funny when we're in uniform." Yes Kensuke she had noticed. "Though I think because we can get along actually helps us work better as a unit, and the various things all of us can do, just help make things easier."
