Due to the lack of gravity in some parts of the ship, and the effect the lack of gravity was having on the poor disoriented farm boy's sense of balance, Wendell has been mostly sticking to the parts that behaved like normal places should. Currently in the cafeteria, Wendell sat at a table, poking at a bit of food on his plate. Despite his best efforts, the occasional gravity-less moments had a lasting effect, and Wendell wasn't feeling that eating would be a good idea.

Instead, his mind wandered, again, back to before all this started. Back to Mana.

When Wendell was a child, curled up under the covers, but not sleeping. There was a storm outside, and the bright flashes of lights and booming noises, to an imaginative kid, sounded very monsterly. He nearly squeaked when there was an actual knocking at the door to his family's house. Sneaking to the hallway to eavesdrop, Wendell saw Mana's mother in the entrance way, speaking to his father. Mana had visited earlier, and left right before the storm had appeared, but her mother said she hadn't made it home. Wendell's father invited Mana's mother in as he rummaged around for his coat and lantern, to help look. Not that his father knew where to look... but Wendell knew.

Sneaking out the back door, Wendell blinked into the rain, staring down the long, dark walk to the barn. It seemed so much farther at night than during the day. A flash, and a crash right afterwards made the little boy huddle down in fear. Over the howling wind, his own scared sounds were lost. However, Wendell was sure of where she was, and swallowed once before walking out into the storm. Another flashing boom, and Wendell screamed, running for the barn door before the monsters behind him could catch up.

Gasping, he hurled the door open, not stopping to close it, as the monsters were right outside in the dark, and might grab him if he lingered. Shaking and fumbling in the dark, Wendell tried to call out. Unable to hear himself over the howling outside, he tried again, finding a small pit of strength untouched by his fear. W-Wendy? It was Mana, using her nickname for him. Her soft voice calling to him from one of the empty stalls.

Wendell stumbled towards her by memory, eyes adjusting to the dark. As he drew near, he could hear Mana sniffling. She was huddled in the back of one of the stalls, wiping her nose on a sleeve. Wendell smiled, and ran over, wrapping his arms around her. Another crash, and Mana shrieked, clinging to the boy. Wendell, however, didn't react this time to the crying monster outside. I'm so scared! Wendell soothed her, calming his own shaking, telling her it was just a storm. Now that he was here, nothing would hurt her...

Back in present day, Wendell smiled to himself. He was always stronger when she was around.
