Roads Blackwell Case File #1-Another Blood Moon Rising

So...what's everyone going to be up from here on out?

I ask, because Eibon and I have a bit of work lined up for the Hadou Princess-Demonbane's gone, but since Innsmouth and Arkham are still here, evil gods and mad sorcerers are going to be a problem going forward. It's not going to be easy work, and there's going to be some horrible, insane stuff, but...I think it's safe to that after fighting Therion and Primeval Force and the Anticross, you're all more than capable of doing it. That, and It'd be nice to have some old friends along. Gonna see if I can't get the TSAB to help out some too, they could use Miskatonic's expertise and Miskatonic could use their resources...

[He smiles.]

But hey, that's just the boring stuff. We did good today.

Indeed. I am pleased to have been acquainted with the crew of the White Chalice. And...should you wish to tell me the story of your life, that it may be recorded forever in my memory, I shall be glad to listen. You are noteworthy people. [It's said with her usual deadpan, but yes, she did just compliment everyone-without qualifiers, even!]

2. [Locked to ???]
Later on, Roads is at a bar-the white chalice's is gone now-celebrating with a drink.

Phase Twenty-One: Your Standard Fairy Tale Happy Ending

[The world has been saved, hopefully for the last time in a long time. The celebrations - and the mourning - have started, and in a lot of places are still continuing. But the victory isn't the only thing to celebrate - and with a lot of help, and a lot of favours, Laura and Lily have extended an invitation to the Chalice crew, past and present, to join them. If you were nearby, chances are the invitation was hand-delivered by a dutiful Servbot.]

1. The setup
[With the looming deadline of the closing portals, things move quickly! Invitations are sent, travel is arranged, a venue is prepared. What had been the White Chalice's Arboretum - now an open-air grove in what's set to become a lush forest - is the site of the ceremony itself, while the celebrations afterwards will take place in Gucun. There's a lot to be done to make ready. Are you helping, or seeking out one of the brides beforehand?]

2. The ceremony
[It's only fitting that Captain Smith should officiate. He's waiting at an arch set up by the flowerbeds of the Arboretum, where the happy couple met, where Laura's tended her memorial to her friends from before the Chalice and to those who've passed on since. Between the Kwan daughters, Epimetheus, and a brace of Servbots you shouldn't have any trouble finding your seat, even if Xue Yi is a little preoccupied ensuring Prometheus behaves. There's some time before the wedding party arrive, to talk amongst yourselves - or with some of the other guests present, who include Laura's overwhelmed-looking parents!]

3. The reception
[Of course, the real point of a wedding is the party afterwards! There's food, drink, and music - Miki pulled some strings, and Pit's showing how Skyworld does catering. After the recent battle, perhaps this is a chance to see some long-absent faces in more peaceful circumstances, or to say goodbye. Or are you just here for the embarrassing speeches?]

[This is a joint mingle post, open to dropped and retired characters as well! For all prompts, please specify whether it's Laura/Lily you want to talk reply, or others!]

Final Discovery

I wonder... If there is an over-encompassing, universal force from which every other force is born, then what would be its opposite? Wouldn't it be the personal force that's unique to you and you alone?

[Prometheus shrugs in response to Werter's musing.]

Or maybe I'm just waxing pseudo-philosophically. In the end, Primeval Force was no universal power; it was a parasite born from the paradox of a stable time loop. And it is no more.

Now then. I think I'm done being a hero for now. Time for something even more challenging; I still have that degree in biochemistry to get! I used my strength to protect the world in times of war; now it's time to make it a better place to live in times of peace.
With science.

The gathering of heroes

[The battle for Gucun didn't end too long ago, and White Chalice is already being refitted for its last desperate mission. There's only one small problem though... well, except for the whole "a giant avatar of a force of nature will destroy us all" thing. The problem being - where will you go if Captain Smith is kicking everyone off the Chalice?

How about taking advantage of an invitation?]

Come. The State of Gucun is your ally, and that will not change. More importantly - I am your friend, and will be so forever. The Chairman General's... no. My and Cheng's home is your own.

Rest. Recuperate. Regain your strength. You are going to need it.

We are launching a counterstrike. No matter what, I assure you: humanity will prevail.

A Return

[With everything that's been happening, especially in the aftermath of Primeval Force's appearance. The last thing anyone would expect is a black blur tearing through the sky towards the Chalice. Nineball. It was a Black Nineball. As if things weren't problematic enough-]

Sorry I'm late. Took me a while to dig my way out and get myself sorted out...

[Wait... Was that... Ryou? In any event the Nineball lands and its pilot exits.]

... I heard about what was happening on the way back... If I knew I would have worked faster.

Yet Another Post-Demonbane Post

[The team's resident grandma can be found watching the sea drift by from the deck.]

So...

...Once again, I am the one left behind.

[She takes a deep breath and closes her eyes, listening to the waves below in silence. Evil still threatens the world. Even now, someone, somewhere, is being tempted by the Other that lurks outside reality. Dictators still stand to wage their petty wars under the eyes of of an uncaring universe. The malevolent Primeval Force plots and lurks even as she stands here, listening to the ocean.

But.

Mankind has friends in high places, too. And right here, right now, the world is at peace. So Eibon does something she does very rarely-she smiles.]

The null cone

My good friends...

[Alessandra sits in front of the wall. Not just a wall - the wall of rememberance. So many names are written there, of White Chalice crew who departed this world.]

Were it not for your valiant efforts, would this very Champion still be able to recite these words, sit where she does? Somehow I find that most doubtful... yet, I cannot help but be overwhelmed by emotions of longing and melancholy.

I suppose...

I suppose I just miss you.

[Alessandra continues to drink her tea in relative peace, but her armored hand shakes while these words are uttered.]

[Yes, this is an invitation to remember and talk about dead characters.]
lastfeather: (Quiet day.)

Post 'Blue Flame Shall Engulf the Earth.'

So... we have monsters from another reality on one hand, a manipulative energy being that wants genocide in the other, and in between all of this we have all kinds of maniacs and machines trying to murder everyone for their own selfish reasons or programming or something.

[Ryou's in the infirmary, maybe Petar was shooting to disable, but the explosions after and his hard landing injured him a bit.]

Well when all this is over and done with the world's going to be a much quieter place.

[Well, that's a surprising amount of optimism.]

Post "Return of the Sinner"

[1]

[Needless to say, Kurou is kind of kicking himself right now after what happened. Thanks to his 'kindness' Master Therion was able to come back to life and summon Yog-Sothoth. On top of all of that, someone he cared about was now dead. Yeah, he's kind of having a bad day.

He sits on the deck of the Chalice just firing round after round from both of his pistols rather absent-mindedly.]

Why did you even give me these Ennea?

[2 A bit later]

[Al appears on the comm, looking a bit better than Eibon was doing. She still looks pretty worried though.]

I know it's pointless to say anything about how tough this will be. I've seen for myself what you all can do; however, that is not my main concern.

If you do not know yet, Yog-Sothoth is connected to all points in time and space. Which means it will be impossible for us to know where it will lead us one we enter the gate. Once we pass through it we will travel throughout the entirety of every universe that exists.

[Al pauses for a moment.]

We will likely never be able to return to this universe.

[3 After Al's Announcement]

[After hearing the announcement Kurou only has one thing to say.]

...Just leave dealing with Master Therion to me.

Hyperboreburned

[Eibon is not a particularly "social" person, so it's a bit surprising to see something of an announcement from her.]

Everyone, I...

...I am sorry. I have failed you, and all mankind.

Those of you with weaker minds should consider suicide. What comes after Yog-Sothoth heralds the rest of his kin from outside time into this world will...not be something you want to stick around for.

[That's it for her extremely glum announcement. Later, Eibon can be seen in the arboretum, tending to some plants.]
lastfeather: (Guess I didn't keep things in check)

Broken Contracts

[Ryou's slumped on a chair somewhere with a bottle of wine in one hand and a hell of a lot of regrets in the other. Meaning it was pressed against his face as he was surrounded by what was more or less a cloud of bitterness.  A lot had gone down... and he was feeling the sting from all of it, from Texotic's death to Jack's senseless murder of fellow Ravens to Naiza (Now Zinaida) having become a Human PLUS. They still won, but it felt like dust.]

...

[He slowly swirls the contents of the bottle, an empty look in his eyes. 'A senseless death' he said. That was what was awaiting him, what he expected, what he knew.]

Its always because of someone who sets themselves up higher than everyone else...

[The bottle slips from his fingers and crashes to the ground. Ryou barely even notices. There was a dim light being cast on his face from a tablet on the table showing some Ark related info - things Jack had prepped to sent should he have died. It just made him more bitter really. A man making a terrible mistake and murdering people in hopes to single someone out to clean his mess. Nothing compared to what the Overbeing Father had done, but all the more frustrating because of his ties. He looks at his hand - a slight cut on it from the shattered wine bottle. He tilts it and watches the blood flow along it.]

Should I still bother being human at this point?

[He doesn't notice you at all.]

Mechanical flowers can bloom even in winter

[The other person on the ship that just arrived on White Chalice? Yup, it's Lily.]

Is this on...? Right! Hello again, everyone. I bring good news! The increase in Chaos activity back at Cosmic Ark was stopped, and the council decided it's time to aid Earth! In a few months, our warriors and scientists should arrive, to help you fight both normal enemies and environmental problems. I'm sure they will help find a cure for the Ruin, among other things.

In the meantime, my mission is to survey the current situation. We know very little about Kairos Aspida, after all, especially their stance towards non-human sentient life. I hope they didn't give you too much trouble in the meantime...

It's good to be back. I keep going away from White Chalice and returning, and every time, I feel the same way.

Ninth Trolling

1. [As an aftermath of this meeting, now there's a greyish pineapple boucing around White Chalice on two stubby legs. Someone drew a "scary" toothy face on it with a marker since then. And it follows people, especially those who would react with the highest amount of WTF to it.]

2. Does anyone know how to remove curses? Prometheus seems to be having fun, but I need him in robot form if we suddenly have to fight.

Rites of the Old Country

[While others might clean up or help fix the damages resulting from the ancient weapon Nineball, Eibon has something else in mind. She has a table set up on the Chalice's deck, a candle, and a small picture of the massive monster.]

N'kai e Tsathoggua, Iqhui dlosh odhqlonqh...

[She continues like this for a short while, hands clasped in prayer while she speaks in an ancient and impossible to understand tongue. When she's finished, she takes the picture of Nineball, lights it on the candle, and tosses it overboard. It's ash before it hits the ground.]
lastfeather: (Seriously?)

Twelfth Contract

[The Earth has been more or less locked down by the Ruina. However Ryou seems to be under stress from other matters as he's drinking down a bottle of wine with more haste than it deserves for something of that prize vintage.]

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.

[He's repeating the word more forcefully each time. Palutena? Matthew? Congratulations, you may have cause the Merc to lose it.]

Holiday Cheer!

1. [Oh look, there's an announcement from Roads.]

Heya! It's approaching the...fourth, fifth thursday in november, and we're not all dead, so I figure we should have a small little thanksgiving party! Small being the operative word-we still gotta keep all the state of the art death machines running-but a bit of a larger meal than normal would be nice. There's plenty to be thankful for, after all!

Anyways, I call making the mashed potatoes. Eibon said she'd make...something weird and ancient, I'm sure.

2. [Much later, the actual party comes! Roads has indeed made mashed potatoes, with the help of some industrial equipment-the end result is a pile of warm pulverized potatoes larger than some people. It's meant for everyone on the ship, but still...

Eibon, for her part, has made some sort of stew and a thick, brown drink. Dare ye try the cooking of the ancients??]

Fun and Games in the Blackwell House/This text color to be used only when I absolutely have to

Alright, you moldy old tome! It's on!

If you really want to lose that badly, so be it.

[Roads and Eibon sit across a small table from each other, dozens and dozens of shots of vodka prepared for the two of them.]

Come on! I've got, like, three times the body mass you do, and a liver that's seen hell itself!

That may be. But I've been drinking alcohol almost as long as there's been alcohol.

Bullshit! You're like, five thousand years too young! Let's go!

[The game starts! Do you referee? Spectate? Offer thrilling sideline commentary? Clean up the mess afterwards? Regardless, this is going to be a sight to behold, with a rough and tumble man going up against an inhuman.]

Post "The Big C Part 1"

[1]

(Dated to immediately after the mission/Somewhat locked to people on the mission )

[Well Al Azif just turned into hundreds of pages in front of Kurou. Thankfully the pages eventually reformed into the shape of a regular book but...that was it. It was just a regular book.. No matter how what he did it remained that way. Not responding, not snapping back at him, not telling him he was an idiot. Nothing.

The former Master of Necronomicon slammed his fist into the floor before picking up the pistols that were left behind and limping towards the elevator.]

I'll fucking destroy them all.

[Someone might want to talk some sense into him]

[2] [Dated a bit later, after the White Chalice has found it's way to the Hadou's secret underground base.]

[Sometime later Kurou could be found in the Hadou Library holding what remained of Al. It seems like he was trying to look for something, some way of restoring her. Anything.]

Got Some Catching Up To Do

[The new book-loli is having a great time on the Chalice, and has found herself a small corner of the common areas in which to watch some movies.

All the movies, in fact-she'll be sitting in the same place, unmoving, for more than a day as she works her way through the history of film around the world, the lights of the widescreen TV she commandeered flickering long into the night. And, in a completely coincidental and no way related chain of events, anyone who's got a movie collection will have found it raided and stolen! Oh no! Who could possibly do such a thing?

Certainly not Eibon, who just sits in her little bean bag chair and watches movies, a neatly organized stack of DVDs growing around her with time.]
lastfeather: (Someone is going to die soon.)

Tenth Contract/Revolution

[The reason for Ryou's hurried return was becoming more and more apparent as he brought his link back to the Raven's Ark online. Everyone and everything back at the Ark was being thrown into chaos. Apparently Mirage's little backstab had caused quite a stir back home. The Execs were willing to be leave and let live with the situation - especially since it was Ryou who got caught in the crossfire. Jack-O, an influential Raven within the Ark on the other hand thought otherwise and the Execs soon found themselves expelled from the Ark - from the top floor of the building.]

...Heh... So its time then...

[Revolution. That was the word being thrown around the Ark. Everyone Jack saw as a corrupting influence to the now independent and strongly Anti-Corporation force was being cast out - every Corporate Bootlicker, everyone who benefited from bending the rules to get more money and cutting out the middleman. As it turns out Evangel was one of those who was thrown out as well - and not just the Layered Corps either... it seems that the League of Ruling Corporations, Collared and whatever subsidiaries were on 'the List' as well. Jack-O was making it clear. The Ravens are calling the Corporations out and sooner or later they'll be taking the fight to them. An independent army of elite and highly lethal mercenaries.]

[Ryou raises a glass of wine in silent approval as the information on the holographic screens continuously relayed more and more information.]
